We build sustainably – for real. Our building system more than halves carbon emissions compared with traditional construction using steel and concrete. Thanks to the industry’s only renewable building material: wood.
In fact, everything began with a small village sawmill in 1924, today we are an industrial billion-kronor group building sustainable homes across the country. But always with a wooden frame.
Our guiding idea is photosynthesis, as we like to say – that marvelous little machine the forest gives us. It enables growing forests to absorb carbon dioxide and lock it away. That gives us a raw material we can build houses from, and in that way store carbon for more than a hundred years.
Moreover we use just 0.04 percent of the wood harvested in Sweden, and the annual growth volume of Swedish forests far exceeds the timber we use. Wood is the only renewable raw material in the building industry. And science agrees that carbon storage in wooden homes over long periods is a sustainable way to use our forest’s resources.
In fact, our wood-frame building system more than halves the carbon emissions compared with conventional building methods using steel and concrete.
We have also developed a unique industrial construction process that ensures the quality of our products much like the car industry does. We work according to LEAN principles and can offer a safe, weather-protected building site inside our factory.
Taking social responsibility and offering good conditions to our employees goes without saying. Diversity and gender equality too. As a family business, it is also vital for us to think long-term for future generations, not to chase quarterly profits or quick gains.
So yes — we aim to be sustainable from every angle of sustainability.
- According to the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning, the construction and property sector emits about 10.8 million tonnes of CO₂e per year (2022) in Sweden.
- That accounts for nearly 22% of Sweden’s total emissions (2021).
- Our wood-frame building system more than halves carbon emissions compared with traditional construction.
- When we include the carbon sink effect, emissions are reduced by an additional 70 percent.
- Our employees have fair and secure working conditions.
- We actively promote greater equality and diversity.
- We are a responsible family-owned company investing in the future.
- Together, we help meet the UN’s climate goals
Industrial timber construction makes it possible to build climate-smart already today. You dramatically reduce your climate impact when you choose the only renewable building material: wood. So, what will you choose?
Industrial wood construction cuts climate impact by 50 percent compared with traditional building in steel and concrete. That’s a fact. And when we include wood’s ability to store carbon through photosynthesis, the so-called carbon sink, an additional 70 percent of emissions is reduced. The difference is huge compared with conventional methods. That’s why more municipalities are now adopting timber-building strategies to meet their sustainability targets. Since January, climate impact is reported through the mandatory climate declaration. Review it, compare, and let the facts guide your sustainable choice for our shared future. The opportunity is here today.
The choice is yours.
We build long-term, sustainable relationships with our customers, partners, employees and with society at large. We strive to operate in a socially sustainable environment where the equal value of all people is at the core.
We see it as our responsibility to contribute to socially sustainable business practices and to engage in the communities where we operate. Our goal is to work together with community stakeholders and customers to find the best solutions—both for sound business and for creating safe, welcoming environments for residents.
Our history and our roots in the north of Sweden are also an important part of our social sustainability efforts and our community engagement in Norrbotten and Västerbotten. We support regional and local sports clubs and are making a major investment in Lindbäcksstadion to strengthen the conditions for winter sports in Piteå and the region.
Lindbäcks is an open and transparent company that gladly welcomes customers, companies, organizations, students and school classes to learn about our operations. We place great value on strong relationships and collaboration.
We build with loyalty because we believe in long-term relationships.
We are a company with around 530 employees, and that means being aware of, and actively working for, a socially sustainable work environment with high safety standards and core values such as diversity, equality, respect and trust.
To create a dynamic and welcoming workplace, we want our employees to reflect a cross-section of today’s Sweden. We believe that differences in gender, background, culture and skills lead to a better work environment and stronger teams, which in turn creates the right conditions for new ideas and continuous development. We are also convinced that this is vital for employee well-being. A concrete example of our commitment to increasing diversity in the construction industry is our ambition to employ an equal number of women and men. With us, there are real opportunities to shape both the company’s development and your own.
We build diversity because we believe in difference.
The development of our business must be driven in a way that allows us to meet the market’s needs without compromising the ability of future generations to live, work, and thrive. We want to contribute to a sustainable future by building more healthy homes through a rational and industrial work process.
We use timber from the Northern forests to create sustainable homes. Wood is not only the only renewable building material, it stores carbon and results in significantly lower carbon emissions over its lifetime compared with other building materials. But we never build faster than the forest grows. The careful management and growth of Swedish forests means it takes just one minute for the forest to regenerate what is needed to build a multi-family home. Building with wood is therefore advantageous if, like us, you want to offer attractive homes while achieving climate goals.
Our industrial and rational construction process minimizes waste and avoids material loss. Building under a roof protects the apartments from weather and allows us to ensure a healthy living environment at move-in and for many years to come.
We build with wood because we believe in the forest.
Innovation and Drive
For ninety-seven years, we have been driven by innovative ideas. We are passionate people who allow small and large, creative and technical, challenging and welcoming ideas to coexist under the same roof. It is our entrepreneurship that has brought us to where we are today and continues to push us to develop further.
In our factory in Piteå, we assemble complete modules in a weather-protected environment. The secret behind our innovative and rational construction process is based on the LEAN philosophy. The purpose is to work with continuous improvements and to identify and eliminate waste in order to increase production efficiency.
Our short time on construction sites leads to significantly less disruption for neighbors and surrounding communities during construction, and through our new production facility at Haraholmen we gain increased capacity. The factory is self-sufficient in solar energy, renewable energy and district heating.
For us, continuous development of our processes and long-term thinking are important. That is why we invest annually in a close and unique collaboration with Luleå University of Technology — all to create strong and sustainable homes that meet the needs of tomorrow.
We build ideas because we know they make a difference.
Safety and a healthy work environment are high priorities for us. All work must comply with laws, regulations, and collective agreements. Our goal is for our employees to be healthier when they leave work than when they arrived. Through our LEAN practices and daily review meetings, we carry out continuous follow-ups to ensure that safety, as well as our employees’ health and well-being, remains at a high level. Safety is not only an internal priority but also includes our collaboration with customers and suppliers.
We stand for lawful and transparent working conditions, and we support the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. We also expect this to be respected by all our partners. We oppose all forms of forced or unpaid labor, discrimination based on nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, or any other circumstances where employees are not treated with the respect and trust that our values promote.
